Summer Bridge Series

In continuing with our long tradition of using data to identify areas of strength and growth, St. Augustine High School has recognized a trend in this year’s HSPT scores.  A slight trend downward for some students requires us to address these potential obstacles to academic success at Saints.  For Summer 2023 the data shows the need to offer a “Bridge” program.  A “Bridge” program is a short 5 week class designed to emphasize the academic tools and skills required to make the transition to a rigorous high school curriculum.  Saints will offer a “Bridge” program in Math and English with both classes including elements of study skills and executive function.  For curriculum specific tools and skills see each course description below:

English Bridge Program

Is intended for incoming Freshmen enrolled in English 1 to sharpen their English Language Arts skills including reading and writing skills.  It emphasizes reading, reading comprehension, writing skills, critical thinking and analysis, note taking, and essential grammar skills.  A student that successfully completes the English Bridge class should have the skills necessary to master content and achieve success in an English class.
