Richard Sanchez

Head coach Richard Sanchez enters his sixth season as one of the most successful coaches in school history. Under his leadership the varsity team has compiled an overall record of 50-13. In addition, the team has won three Eastern League titles during
that time.

The 2013 squad won the school’s first CIF championship since 2006 and followed a runner-up finish in 2012. The 2013 team set a school record with 583 points scored and romped to a 49-0 win over Mission Bay in the championship game.

Coach Sanchez is a local product from Sweetwater High School were his teams compiled a 37 game win streak under legendary coach Gene Alim. Richard played collegiately at New Mexico State, and began his coaching career at Montclair High School followed by a successful turnaround of the program at San Diego High. Coach Sanchez spent time on the staffs’ of Valparaiso, USD and San Diego State before a five year run at Sacramento State serving in a number of capacities.

Coach Sanchez and his wife Maria reside in San Diego with their daughter Kristiana and son Ricky.
