Mr. Ken Nwadike, Jr., Track & Field Head Coach

St. Augustine Track & Field fields a full JV and Varsity program with as many as 125 participants on a yearly basis. This is a no-cut program.

The program currently competes in the Eastern League. Competing for league titles, CIF crowns, sending athletes to the State Meet, and on to college has become an expectation of our Track & Field team for the past several decades.

Recently the Track and Field Team was crowned League Champs in 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2019. CIF Title Finalist 2014 and 2015, as well as individual CIF title winners in 2019 and 2021.

Saints’ athletes that have gone on to compete in college: Christopher Erpelding ’19 – UCSD (Sprints); Nick Heid ’16 – CSU San Marcos (7th all-time High Jump); Tanner Battikha ’16 – Univ. New Mexico (2019 Mountain West Indoor and Outdoor Champ); Paul Doan ’14 – UCSD (2018 CCAA champion in the 100 and 200. Currently he holds school records in both the 100 (10.39) and 200 (21.10).

We have also established a program for Para-Athletes. In 2019 Kyle Wyborney placed 3rd in the State for the 100m Wheelchair competition.

Head coach Ken Nwadike, Jr. has coached youth, high school, and collegiate runners. As a standout track and field athlete, Ken received NAIA All-American honors while attending California State University, San Marcos on an athletic scholarship. In 2005, Ken was recruited to join the Olympic development program – Nike Farm Elite Team, to compete as a professional middle distance runner.
