Saints Volleyball Welcomes New Leadership for 2025–26

St. Augustine High School is proud to welcome Eduardo Valencia and Rob Gorney as the new leaders of our Indoor Volleyball Program for the 2025–26 season.

Coach Valencia is a respected mentor, accomplished player, and dedicated leader who brings extensive experience in coaching, community building, and counseling. A top-level technician and competitor, he is passionate about using sport to change lives and help young men grow in confidence and character.

Joining him is Coach Gorney, a San Diego Coaching Legends Hall of Fame inductee with decades of success guiding student-athletes both on and off the court. A former Catholic and public-school educator and coach, he brings a wealth of experience, championship success, and wisdom to Saints. He values mentorship, service to others, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those he coaches.

Together, Coaches Valencia and Gorney share a vision rooted in excellence, discipline, and the Augustinian values of Brotherhood and Faith. With their combined expertise, championship pedigree, and passion for developing young men of character, Saints Volleyball is poised for an exciting new era.

Continuing a Winning Tradition

Saints Indoor Volleyball is a spring sport, with tryouts scheduled for February 2026. The program competes in the San Diego CIF Division I/Open Division and proudly represents the Western League of the City Conference.

Saints Volleyball enters the new season as the reigning Division I CIF Champions and Western League Champions, following an outstanding 2025 campaign that included key victories over rivals Cathedral Catholic and Francis Parker. Congratulations to Coach Palafox and Coach Gorsich for their leadership and success this past season. We look forward to building on that momentum as we continue to be one of the premier volleyball programs in San Diego County.

Program Structure & Expectations

Saints Volleyball will field Varsity and Junior Varsity teams, with the possibility of adding a Freshman team this season.

Prospective student-athletes are expected to:

  • Maintain strong academic standing

  • Demonstrate a positive, growth-oriented attitude

  • Commit fully to the program

While prior volleyball experience and technical skills are valued, they are not required for entry-level participation. All athletes must complete and submit participation paperwork and physicals before tryouts begin in early February.

We look forward to another great season of Saints Volleyball — rooted in Brotherhood, Faith, and the pursuit of excellence.
