2024 Saints Golf Team:
The Saints golf team has been a perpetual contender for the league championship and over the last 30 years has won more than 70% of their dual matches. Our team has won one State Championship (2005), one Southern California Championship, 2 CIF Championships, and have also been CIF runner-up 4 times. The Saints golf team has participated in the full field San Diego CIF Championship 33 out of the past 35 years heading into the 2024 season.
Coming off a 2022 season in which the team finished in the top 7 in San Diego County, we knew that the 2023 season would feature many changes since 5 of the returning top 6 golfers were no longer at Saints. In the early part of the 2023 season, the team struggled as we integrated many new golfers into the roster. In the 2nd half of the season, the team showed amazing improvement!! Whereas our scoring average through the first half of the season was outside of the top 25 teams (averaging roughly 223 as a team in matches), in the 2nd half of the season we moved into the top 12 (averaging under 210 as a team). Our two seniors in the top 6 – Jeff Korn and Henry Hooper – provided improved play and great leadership, helping form a cohesiveness amongst the team.
As we look ahead to spring 2024, we plan on building on the success of the 2nd half of last season. With four returning varsity lettermen – 12th grader Jack Dougenis, juniors Lucas Younes and Emilio Gallego, and sophomore Austin Lambeth – we have strong core who earned extensive tournament experience last season.
For the 12th year, Saints will serve as host for the San Diego Country Club High School Invitational. We will again play in the Ramona Bulldog Invitational at San Vicente Golf Course and have a tough non-league schedule to get ready for CIF playoffs. You can follow our schedule and results on our team webpage through the St. Augustine website.
