Players and Parents,

In light of the announcement to close school for the foreseeable future, here is an update specifically regarding athletics.

First and foremost, for as long as Saints is closed to regular classes, all athletics events (practices, workouts, games, and other team-related functions) are cancelled. The situation will be evaluated on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future until we are prepared to resume normal school attendance and functionality. Updates can be found on the school website (sahs.org) and the students’ Canvas page. We understand that this news is disappointing to our athletes and our parents, particularly the senior athletes in their final seasons. Everyone’s health and well-being is at the forefront of these decisions.

We are being asked to discourage any students trying to organize workouts/activities during this time. The whole point of this cancellation is the promotion of social distancing to limit exposure and to keep our student-athletes healthy and safe. Coaches are absolutely encouraged to keep their players informed, which may include individualized workouts that they can do from home (i.e hitting off a tee, soft toss, etc. defensive glove work and throwing whenever possible and pitchers performing towel drills, bullpens twice a week etc. {see schedule below}.  And of course do your best to stay in shape on your own…). That is where the expectation should stop. We are not to encourage players to workout at their local gym or with other groups. Also, if any student athlete participates with a club team during this hiatus, they will be ruled ineligible for CIF play upon our return. You also may not use any school facility to workout, train, practice, etc.

While many events and schools have already announced closings and limitations on play, San Diego Unified and City Conference have already announced cancellations through Monday, April 6.  As a member of City Conference, we will be abiding by that April 6 date for all league games, unless otherwise notified. For any non-City Conference opponents on our schedule, we will evaluate on a weekly basis.

The campus will remain open for faculty and staff only during the week of March 16. Know that the campus is open from 8am – 2pm on Monday , Tuesday, and Wednesday for those student not in attendance today (Friday, March 13, 2020). Students should not be hanging around campus any longer than is necessary for them to pick up their personal belongings. We have asked that all lockers be cleared out for the time being. This includes the athletic lockers in the gym.

As uncertainty looms around every corner, we understand and we appreciate your cooperation with these matters. As Matt Linville (Athletic Director) and Mile Haupt (Assistant Principal for Auxiliary Services) learn more from City Conference and CIF about the potential return to play, we will keep you posted in a timely manner.

We were just informed via email today that they have decided to cancel the Boras Classic tournament for 2020… see statement below!

Official statement from the Boras Family Foundation

In light of the current COVID-19 concerns, and after much consultation with medical professionals and following the California Governor’s direction to postpone or cancel events of 250 or more individuals, the Boras Family Foundation has decided that the 2020 Boras Baseball Classic of California will not move forward as planned. The health and safety of the players, fans, volunteers and community at large is our first priority. Our thoughts are with those that have been affected by this outbreak.

Thank you for your understanding.
