Last spring, School President Edwin Hearn couldn’t have been more delighted to read the memo from a parent announcing ten new Eagle Scouts would be graduating from St. Augustine High School.

This fall there’s even better news. “All of our Eagle Scout alums are joining 170 members of the school’s Class of 2007 (100%), who are enrolled in colleges across the nation,” said Hearn, who is the headmaster at the 85 year-old all boys private high school in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego. “Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to have on average three of four Eagles graduate per year, but this is certainly a bumper crop for us and the Saints Community.” The school marked the fourth year in a row that 100% of its graduating seniors enrolled in and are attending a college or university.

Hearn went on to praise, the new Eagles, their parents and a thriving scouting program in San Diego for the outstanding crop. An Eagle Scout is a Scout with the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its introduction in 1911, more than 1.7 million young men have earned the Eagle Scout rank.

St. Augustine High School in San Diego is a Catholic, college preparatory secondary school for young men from grades 9-12. The school has an enrollment of approximately 700 students from the greater San Diego and Tijuana areas with a rich ethnic and racial mix. Saints is administered and staffed by the Augustinians and dedicated lay persons. It is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The curriculum is a traditional set of college prep courses, and it offers several advanced placement and honors courses.
