Tennis Varsity Roster| JV Roster| Schedule and Scores 2008 Saints Tennis
Following the strongest Saints tennis season in over 10 years, the 2008 season will be full of new faces to the varsity team. Gone will be seven varsity members who formed the deep roster which was victorious against several high school teams that we hadn't beat in the recent past. The high turnover doesn't necessarily mean that the 2008 Saints tennis team will see a decline since many on the team have been playing US Tennis Association Junior events over the past year in conjuntion with lessons and are now much improved. The biggest unknowns about the season is who will be filling out different roles within the team since there will be so many new varsity members. The team captains, senior Chris Bernasconi, juniors Nick Yap and Genaro Favela, have been leading the off-season workouts at Morley Field and had great regular turnout as the team prepared for the upcoming season. It will be crucial that our singles players step-up their games and are able to win some matches in league play. The singles players who figure to see the most action are last year's St's Freshman-of -the-Year Miguel Acosta and juniors Genaro Favela and Nick Yap. In past years, the strength of the St's Tennis team has been in doubles play as we have proven to be deep in talent and team-work. With a tough early season non-league schedule, we will have a good chance to develop chemistry on the doubles teams and see who partners best together. Players counted on for major roles this season include returning lettermen Chris Bernasconi(Sr), Arthur Cardones(Jr), Nick Yap(Jr), Genaro Favela(Jr), and Miguel Acosta(So). A large group returns from the very strong JV team and will form much of the varsity team, including Alex Llamas(Jr), PeterChacon(Jr), Kent Kerner(Jr), Adam Johnson(Jr), Kevin Leyden(Jr), Alex Kinstle(So), Trevor Hopkins(So), Scott Briggs(So).
