The
goals of St. Augustine High School include developing
educated Christian leaders and graduating young
men who give example of the message of Christ
through their own lives. The Campus Ministry
Christian Service Program hopes to instill a
life-long passion of service to others in the
Saintsmen while at the same time striving to
improve our world and live our Christian faith
each day.
The Christian Service program at SAINTS strives
to help each student diversify their service
to have a meaningful and worthwhile experience
of the world around them while contributing
to it. Each Saintsman must complete 100 hours
of Christian Service before Graduation.
Each student is invited and encouraged to complete
all or a part of their service work during the
summer. The students must obtain the Campus
Ministry approval and any necessary time sheets
and forms before they begin their work. In addition
to the Service Opportunities which can be found
in the Campus Ministry office, there will also
be monthly trips to the Augustinian sponsored
orphanage in La Gloria, Mexico and two Amor
Ministries house-building trips in Mexico.
After the students perform their meaningful
work, each underclassman is required to write
an essay reflecting on their term of volunteer
service. The paper must be two-pages in length.
An outline for the paper will be handed out
in religion classes at a later date. The reflection
paper and completed hours will be counted as
a percentage of the religion grade for the second
semester. All Christian Service may begin on
the date of the class orientation at the beginning
of the school year, which is where information
and placements will be discussed.
We hope that SAINTSMEN go above and beyond the
call for service through “requirements”
and actually participate in service out of a
desire to do good for others. Each year, the
students, faculty, alumni and friends of St.
Augustine High School contribute thousands of
hours of service to different communities in
San Diego, representing who we truly are as
a community of believers who put faith into
action.
